Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is a
public school district serving Miami-Dade County, Florida. Founded
in 1885, it is the largest school district in Florida and the fourth
largest in the United States, with a student enrollment of 379,155
as of May 18, 2009.
Miami Dade public schools is managed the School Board of Miami-Dade
County, which appoints a Superintendent to head the administrative
portions of Miami Dade Public School district
The Miami Dade Public School district is also the second-largest
minority public school system in the country, with 62% of its
students being of Hispanic origin, 26% African American, 9%
Non-Hispanic White, 1% Asian or Pacific Islander and less than 2% of
other minorities.Miami-Dade County Public Schools is also one of a
few public school districts in the United States to offer optional
International Studies Programs and bilingual education.In Miami Dade
Public Schols bilingual education is offered in Spanish, Haitian
Creole, and Mandarin. MDCPS is the only school district in Florida
to offer bilingual education in Mandarin.
